Stormwater runoff occurs when water from rain or snowmelt flows over the ground.
Why Is It A Problem?
Impervious surfaces like driveways, sidewalks, and streets prevent stormwater runoff from naturally soaking into the ground. This excess stormwater runoff then mixes with pollutants: oil, grease, nutrients, chemicals, bacteria, and sediment, flows unfiltered through the City's drainage system, and outfalls into our watersheds. As you can imagine, this greatly affects the water recreational activities we enjoy as swimming and fishing. Yuck!
The City's Stormwater Management Program aims at educating the public on the importance of maintaining the stormwater quality for protecting our watersheds.
Sweep Driveway, Sidewalks, Street Curb and Gutter instead of hosing down with water.
